Where do we come from?
The original Fidlers team was founded in the late 1880’s by a Stockport fish merchant, Charles Burgess Fidler, to provide recreation and entertainment for Stopfordians and collect money for local charities.
The Fidlers fish business continues (now specialising in frozen foods) and the family allow the team to use, as its emblem, their trademark of a smiling fish.
In the early days, the Fidlers Morris and Maypole Dancers were accompanied by Stockport Silver Band and regularly led the annual Stockport carnival.
The present team, formed in 1977, continue to perform traditional dances from around the North West of England, accompanied by their own band of talented musicians. The band currently comprises players of accordion and percussion.
The photographs below show Fidlers dancing over the years.
